Chapters & learning objectives
1. Models of Care in the ICU
This chapter will examine three models of ICU care and appreciate the differences between traditional and nontraditional multidisciplinary core members of the team. A comprehensive understanding of these models of care provides a basis for the value of SLP presence and interventions within critical care medicine.
2. Developing a Skill Set and a Plan for Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) Services in the ICU
This chapter will assist the learner in identifying at least four methods necessary to develop the skill set for implementing SLP services in the ICU. Developing these skills will expand the knowledge base to provide evidence-based care in the ICU.
3. The Value of SLP Services Within the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT)
This chapter will assist the learner in constructing a plan to address the value of SLP services to the multidisciplinary critical care team. An improved multidisciplinary understanding of the SLP’s role allows for the development of integrated research and clinical innovations in patient care.
